Colonial / Modern Residence, Waban, MA

This was a tear-down, start-again project. We demolished the existing 1,500-square-foot home and replaced it with a new 4,000-square foot design. The layout is essentially U-shaped, composed of two Colonial structures (front and back) with a connecting arm. The setback of the angled side property line was handled by making the second structure a little smaller, hence avoiding any awkward angles, and the U form created a natural space for an outdoor patio. The connector is truly the heart of the home, and houses the kitchen on the first floor with a two-story glass wall view to the south. The wall is a seamless connection to the outdoors in all seasons and balances the relationship between interior and exterior space.

“The home is a true reflection of how we live and function as a family and has given me a personal appreciation of how well-planned space can improve overall well-being.”
